Shalom everyone, im sorry to write this in English,

I have en English forum, but also want visitors to be able to write in hebrew, at the moment the Hebrew signs look horrible (check picture). Perhaps the solution is available on this forum, but my hebrew isnt good enough to figure it out.

I dont want the whole forum to be in Hebrew..only that visitors are able to write in Hebrew..you guys have a solution for this?

Hi there

The problem is due to encoding issue with your browser and your template and your database
I don't know in what encoding your web site was build but in Hebrew it is recommended to use UTF-8 which is by now a standard
As well the encoding for the database should be UTF-8

I would guess that the main issue is with the template encoding of your website, which is not the same as the forum, or that the DB is not UTF-8,

If you enter data in one encoding (lets say iso-8999 or something like that) and your data base encoding is different, then you will have jbrish when writing in Hebrew - you won't get this problem for Latin letters

If writing in Hebrew is close to your hart I recommend moving on to UTF-8, it will solve all your problems

Unfortunately im not an expert in databases and coding. Can you tell me where and how i can change it to utf-8?

first thing you need to check your template encoding, this could be found at templatedetails.xml under yout template root, i.e - yoursitename/template/template name/templatedetails.xml

open the file and change the encoding - the first line to UTF-8, this could solve the problem by the way, I thought in my previous respond that this was done already

at this point stop and try to save some hebrew letters and see if this solve the problem

if not you can to check is that your DB is at UTF-8 encoding, this can be found at your phpmyadmin under your cpanel account (not joomla) then look for database encoding
